Caring For Ageing Parents

July 15, 2020 8:00 am

Supporting Carers In The Community

July 4, 2019 8:00 am

At Home Care Preferred, we understand that not all families can afford at home care for their loved ones and often result in taking on the carer role themselves. With last month’s Carers Week raising awareness we wanted to highlight some key statistics and share some information about the unpaid carers of the UK. According to Carers Week, a registered charity in the UK: “Almost 72% of carers in the UK said they had suffered mental ill health as a result of caring, whilst well over 61% said their physical health had worsened.” National Charities  have warned that “unless more support is provided, the UK’s carers won’t be healthy enough to care for loved ones in the future.” In addition, “The...

Taking Care In The Winter Months

January 28, 2019 8:00 am

As the weather gets colder and the mercury plummets below zero, it’s time to help our elderly friends and family stay healthy and warm this winter. According to Age UK, “1 older person dies every 7 minutes from the cold weather and many more become seriously ill.” But, there are steps we can take to ensure our elderly loved ones are looked after and able to stay warm and healthy in the winter. Study Finds Older People Want To Live In Own Homes

November 24, 2016 1:06 pm

A new study has found that the majority of older people want to stay living in their own homes particularly because they like the location of their home. The report also says there is a gap in the housing and support options for older people, between remaining at home and going into a nursing home. The report says the proportion of the population aged over 65 will increase from the current figure of 13 per cent to 25 per cent by 2046, while the number of over-80s is...

Of those, there was a 21% rise in complaints about residential care homes, while complaints about home care rose by 25%. The report comes after the King’s Fund warned this week that councils could face legal challenges from families for failing to provide good quality and appropriate care to the disabled and older people. The LGO found themes across the complaints it received on home care, including staff failing to...
